So I have a project at school where we have to work out the muscles in our body that are essential to one of our hobbies. I chose playing guitar.

Can anyone help me find out which muscles are worked out by playing?
Or which muscles I should work out to play better?
Or even just a source where I can find such information.

You could try the Spider exercises in the "Exercises/Songs for technique" thread, just click the link and download the files and open them in GP ( or download tuxguitar for free if you dont have gp ). They work as excellent workouts for me.

fingers mostly.... also your forearm and back like supersac said.... although the back doesn't apply if you only want to play sitting down....
