So let's say i want a strat with a regular scale but 24 frets and a floyd, where would that fall :P (hence that making it like this is eliminating the neck pickup and making the fretboard but not the neck longer and have it rest a little bit over the scratchplate).

I'm curious since that's what has been on my mind when thinking about my personal custom guitar xD, of course with that it will mean probably a deeper cutaway on the lower horn but meh, i can bear wit it.

Meh i was looking into white ash, with a cool blue transition colors which i already have pictures of for reference and regular strat inlays, MIGHT come up for something on the 12th fret since it falls into unlimited now, and leaving out the neck pickup is because the tone i am going for on this one is a lead-ish rhythm guitar-ish that plays heavy-ish....

We will have to talk more about that later XDDDD

so i started cutting out that bass.. got halfway before i decided i hated the shape.

so i stopped cutting and took it upstairs and started redesigning it.. think ive come up with something i like.

and im no longer painting it red.. i got payed today and ive been working a LOT of hours.. so i can afford something a touch nicer now for this.

still an alder body, but im going to be putting a bloodwood top on it, finished in satin laquer.

and i MIGHT switch the fretboard from flamed maple to ebony.. but not sure. theres a couple other neat things on this one too..

and il have some newer pics of the other builds as well soon. i got 5 total on the go now =]

5 builds at the same time :O and how long does a particular build takes you Jason??

I'm the kind of guy that gets hectic and like getting stuff yesterday (oh dearly GAS... Hurts me so much but i love it hehe) so i would like to know how long it would take me to get a buil from you if let's say i pay all the money on the get-go.

well, the 5 on the go are jsut like.. regular builds. when i get an order from someone my regular builds get put on the back burner, and the customer becomes my only priority.

on average (depending on the type of finish)

a build will take me 3-5 months.

but i have done it in way less. such as said the whales only took me a month and a half really..

but for my regular builds for myself, it all depends how much i have to work with my day job,
and then how much i work on guitars vs. slacking off and watching movies =P

Hahhahaha, that sounds like a dream :P

That's not really that much time for a nice custom built guitar, love it man.

man, so my rooms a total mess. guitars and stuff everywhere. and despite having 6 wall hangers, i often find guitars don't have a place.. or things like partyl built guitars need a place to stay as well.

so, i took my old fanned fret strat, chopped it up, add some dowel and some foam...few scrap peices of wood.

and voila!

(its pretty crude, but very sturdy. and doesn't look to bad either really.

anytime.. it was SUPER easy too.. took me like.. 20 bucks and 2 horus of work...

obviously you could make it way nicer if you tried.

oh, and none of it is glued.. the two bottom dowels are just stuck in, can come apart if needed.

and the pvc is jsut sitting in the holes drilled into the strat body.

the wooden sperators were made by drilling a big hole in the middle of a strip of wood, then cutting it in half. then i jsut screwed them onto the pvc crossbeam.

Yes its a great Idea. I dream of a stand like that made out of clear acrylic, would be expensive. So I guess Ill get some PVC and Ill rap it in foam, or rubber!

This is going to be random but the output jack on your Empress like pretty big
And everything else looks mint

been meaning to ask, for this first Jillard Jr I'm making in the preformer series (the mahogany body+neck)

ebony fretboard, or rosewood?

ebony has been my personal go to for fretboards now, i like the elegant solidness to it.

but rosewood is that more classic apeal. i have both ebony blanks, and nice rosewood blanks already.. jsut can't decide what would be better for the first Jillard Jr.

Well whats the color scheme of it?

got some stuffs done today.

heres a shot of a couple scarf joints i set up today. mahogany and flamed ash.

then, the other day i ahd this awesome idea for a guitar. so i drew it out and stuff, then some punk kid on a skateboard came in and stole my drawings.. then he drove of in a delorian.

whatever, i'll jsut build it anyways.

=]

binding channel

control cavity

also on the go today, i got the 3 bodies sanded

new Jr style Preformer :

the empress is getting a makeover: flamed ash

and the new fanned fret strat, alder. also got the cavities roughed out.

finished the day off by routing the round over on all the bodies. 1/4 inch on everything but the strat, which is 3/4 i think.

the jr shaped one.

speaking of the bass....

5 string, fanned fret, semi hollow set neck bass.

waddup.

thoughts on the soundhole design?

and its getting this paduak top:

sexy.

and then finally here are some necks in my messy messy room.

the left is a potential neck for this bass.. also considering a wenge/paduak one.. i have the wood.. jsut a question of what one i go with.

also showed, potential rosewood fretboard for the jr? thoughts? or should i go ebony..
#191
Dat flame on the second neck from the right.
I feel like the soundhole needs a bigger hole at the end of it, im not sure....
And yea, i'd go with ebony.

I was going to ask if it was a curly ebony, but it just didn't seem like it could exist untill now....How much do your ash guitars end up weighing?

now thats what I call wood porn....
Hmm, i must be getting normal ash then, my slightly over sized tele is 9-11 pounds with hardware and everything....

#197
well, its all I can get here for ash, and 30$ per body you can't complain. Sustain on it is awesome though.
I'm gonna do a semi-hollow blonde tele sometime.....hopefully soon.

For the FB of the Jillars JR, id go for an ebony board. black fits all, brown does not. Also, ebony sounds much higher end.
You know what would be cool(not for the JR, but in general)? An ebony neck-thru. Might be a feature of my private stock i will have, when ill be rich...
#200
i thought about that yeaaaaaaaaaaars ago.

a guy i know (been a family friend for a long time) took a trip to africa years ago. brought home this huuuuuuuuuge chunk of ebony. i measured it, and with a scarf joint, i could make a neckthru from it. but.. i'll never get the chance to get my hands on something like that. but that neck would be soo slickk
