Alright, first Friday of every month at church, we have a night service. First hour is a normal church service, next 60-90 minutes is "partying". Basically the social aspect of church.

Now last night we had a last-minute couple of guys rock up with a guitar and a mic and they sang some stuff and did a little acoustic gig.

I figured I'd get them along, maybe a drummer and a bassist and organise to do something like this next month, June 3rd.

Basically I need suggestions for songs I/we could play acoustically or cleanly on an electric guitar. From going through the first few artists on my iPod, this is a rough list of ideas I came up with so far:

  • If It Means A Lot To You - A Day To Remember
  • You Had Me At Hello - A Day To Remember
  • No Excuses - Alice In Chains
  • Would? - Alice In Chains
  • Dear God - Avenged Sevenfold
  • So Far Away - Avenged Sevenfold
  • Wild At Heart - Birds Of Tokyo
  • Dear Agony - Breaking Benjamin
  • The Diary Of Jane - Breaking Benjamin
  • Give Me A Sign - Breaking Benjamin
  • A Place Where You Belong - Bullet For My Valentine
  • With Arms Wide Open - Creed
  • Arlandria - Foo Fighters
  • Best Of You - Foo Fighters
  • But, Honestly - Foo Fighters
  • Everlong - Foo Fighters
  • My Hero - Foo Fighters
  • The Pretender - Foo Fighters
  • Times Like These - Foo Fighters
  • How To Save A Life - The Fray
  • Over My Head (Cable Car) - The Fray
  • Head You Me - Jimmy Eat World
  • The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
  • Better Than - John Butler Trio

This was when I was half-asleep after (successfully ) re-stringing my Floyd Rose, so I'll probably add to this. I wouldn't mind some heavier stuff, but bear in mind it is a church environment, so try and keep the lyrical content clean and positive. To be honest, I would have loved to do an acoustic cover of Victim - Avenged Sevenfold, but it's far too depressing for the scenario.

Also, let me know of any other details that would help.
Thanks.

If it was "Need to catch my dog pooing under my piano..." it would be thread of the decade.

nah, seriously: some of these may be by metal bands, but the songs i suggest by them are acoustic or pretty numbers

black balloon - monster magnet
milk thistle - conor oberst
if you can manage it, Elk by this town needs guns.
god and satan - biffy clyro
boiled frogs - city and colour (watch out for the bar of 5/4 before the chorus)
hallelujah
im youres - jason mraz
mondo bongo - joe strummer and the mescaleros.
in the sun - joseph arthur
life on the drop - srv
stand by me

this should probably be in the suggest a song thread, but meh.
hope this helps.

Thanks for the list; I'll look into them.

And yes, maybe it should be in the thread, but people never give back in that forum. I've asked for countless suggestions in that thread and suggested some to other users, but never gotten anything back. :/

Good Love is on the Way - John Mayer
3x5 -John Mayer
Summer Breeze - Jason Mraz
Slight Figure of Speech - The Avett Brothers
Monster - The Almost
Buildings and Mountains - The Republic Tigers
Fear - Station 2
Mess of Me (acoustic) - Switchfoot
If it's creative, true to your musical goal, and it sounds good, put it in the song.

1. Guitar, delay, verb, amp, and creativity.
2. Well-tuned acoustic piano and creativity.
3. A bottle of water.

Sorry to say it but this should probably go into the "Suggest me a song" sticky.

Also, get a bigger iPod and put more artists on it.

Yep.
And no, Guitar Hero will not help. Even on expert. Really.
