no, not a subjective, shit-flinging "debate" about what is and isn't music in your opinion. I want to know what songs the pit thinks tell it like it is, songs that capture a way of life or an emotion that gets to you.

a few for me are:

Language of Violence - The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy
stupid link : If I Wasn't - Woodie

Every time I hear this, it makes me want to gather my friends and defeat the evil tyrant threatening to destroy my world.

On the come up we were listening to Grateful Dead and the music started passing through my bowel and out my arsehole as this violet stream of light. I shat music. It was beautiful.

Sublime's "What I Got" seems to fit here.
If 4 more people tell me to go back to writing The Vanishing Point, I will.

Nice pick. I love Waylon's solo version. I think Waylon Jennings-Drinking and Dreaming is a solid pick for this thread as well.

I agree, although i think that clip has some really good singing by Keith in it which makes it for me.

I've had this song stuck in my head all day.

"My intentions are not to expose.
The depths of her trouble aren't mine to disclose,
But like evening rain on the petal of a rose
It drips down to the earth and begins to compose."

One of my favourite lyric excerpts ever now. Scurrilous took a while to grow on me, but now it's easily one of my favourite albums of 2009 onward.

A big one for me is Kanye West... *embraces jeers*.

I can really identify with his College Dropout album, there were just so many relatable themes (for me at least). From the inevitable 9-5 grind that we all go through to our dreams of greatness as well as our overindulgence as a country largely stemming from self consciousness. The album even touches on losing loved ones as well as the pressure from our society to go through with school by any means.
