I have a thick layer of crap that has just been building up on my fretboard. I've tried a bunch of times to get it off with the lemon oil fretboard cleaner stuff, but nothing works. Are there any other methods I can use?

put the lemon oil on, let it soak for about 30sec to a minute, and take a credit card or something liek that and scrape it off, but be careful not to push to hard so as not to scratch the wood.

then after that, i use an old tshirt or a sock, and clean all the excess off and my fretboard is like new again, well better actuly

is it rosewood? If so than you can probably use 0000 steel wool to get some shit off.

Disclaimer: This works for rosewood strats, I dunno about other guitars. If you use anything rougher than 0000, your guitar is ****ed. Be careful.
