So I am a full blown lefy. Everything I do is always with my left hand; exept for guitar. When I first strated playing I held the guitar to the right as a left handed player would. My guitar teacher told me that I would be better off learning to play right handed so that is what I did. A few years later, I had a new guitar teacher and after hearing that I was a lefty he told me I should really consider changing to playing left handed. I didnt listen to him a continued to play right handed, and still do to this day. Now lately I have really been wondering if playing right handed is the right decision for me, and if playing the "wrong way" was holding back my skill. I have always had a fast fretting hand, yet have always struggled with fast picking while holding a pick (oddly enough fingerpicking is not a problem for me) So I was wondering what you guys thought. Should I re-teach myself to play lefty or continue to play right handed? Am I at a disadvantage for playing right handed, or is there actually an advantage for playing the "wrong way".Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I'm a lefty who plays righty, and there is no disadvantage at all to doing it. Billy Corgan and one of the guys from Aerosmith both are that way too plus a bunch of others that I don't remember right now.

didnt seem to bother Hendrix. he was a lefty who played a righty guitar upside-down!

do whatever feels natural. there is no "right" or "wrong".

I'm a lefty, used to play lefty but changed to righty. Righty just feels better for some reason and there's a better range of guitars for it.

Michael Angelo Batio is left-handed yet plays guitar right-handed.

Doesn't seem to affect him.

Any disadvantages you have playing one way will be mirrored once you try playing the other way. Just keep on playing the way you are and concentrate on training your right hand.

I also play right-handed though being a lefty, and I have the same problem as you. You just need to practice more, it'll get better.

i've heard this discussed frequently leftys who play righty actually have an advantage over people who play to their standard orientation due to added fingerboard dexterity you were right not to listen to your second teacher.

Learn to play lefty, then you can go Batio double guitar on everyone's asses.

You, good sir, have not gone over to your friends house after a hard night of drinking to find 2 dudes passed out in the same room both holding their own flaccid cocks in hand, passed out, with porn on the tv.

I hate how popular she is. It's really obnoxious.
And that typical "I want a metal tone" sound.
"I've got a Dime guitar and a Line 6! Look at me!"

Seems that tits can get you anywhere these day.

Wish I had some. lol

I had a friend who was held at gunpoint as a cashier. The robber told him to give him all the money in the register and what not. Apparently my friend then replied, "Would you like a slurpee with that?"

I'm a lefty who plays righty, and there's no issues. If you learned playing a right handed guitar and are now decent enough at it, there's no issues.
