Unfortunately I'm moving back home with my mom this summer from college and she has non-stop been pressuring me into getting a job. How realistic do you think it is to set a goal of going to the casino 4-7 days a week, earning $50 a day on low stakes texas hold 'em, and considering that my summer job. My rules would be that if at anytime I lost $25, I would leave immediately and if at anytime I won $50 I would leave the table with my winnings. I really only need about $100 a week so I could even quit early in the week if I got ahead. I've been playing poker pretty consistently since I was 15 (23 now) and I'm pretty confident I could do this. Seems like a much better option than getting paid minimum wage serving tables while getting orders from a boss. What are my chances of pulling this off successfully?

You're an idiot.

Work at the casino, how about that?

I know a guy who works security at a casino and he has the time of his life.

Yes, dude, go for it! Seeing as you have played poker for 8 years, you have a possibility to pull it off. I think its a great idea. Do it!

I don't understand the hostility. Winning $50 dollars at a no limit poker table no matter how low the stakes can pretty much be done in 1 or 2 quick hands. Players at casinos where I play at love to bluff, so I never do and more often than not, have ended up walking away with their money.

Not realistic at all. Casinos make big $$$ off of suckers who think they can play the system. The probability of you making big money is not in your court - it's in theirs. That's why they stay in business and are swimming in cash.
My rules would be that if at anytime I lost $25, I would leave immediately and if at anytime I won $50 I would leave the table with my winnings. Sorry man, you're having delusions of grandeur. Get a job and if you want, go and gamble if you have extra cash after you pay your dues (hey, it's your money not mine). I hope you can find a stable job and salary for the summer. Good luck.

You do realize poker in casinos is the one game where you aren't playing against the casino don't you? They make their cuts by taking incredibly small percentages of the antes from each pot, so the only odds stacked against you is your skill versus the skill of other players at the table.

You might possibly be thinking of blackjack (?) which is not a form of poker.

You actually want to do this, don't you?

Go ahead, your mom will reimburse your losses I'm sure.

Nononono! You will lose much more than $50.

Go get an actual job. Like WORK at the casino. Maybe you'll get around $100 a day at minimum wage working for 8hours there. I'd say that's better than being in debt.

Edit: I sorta doubt your mother will accept, "Oh, I made $50 at the casino today." After awhile, she'll wonder what exactly you do there. Then, you gonna lie to your mother? "Oh, I wait tables." Yeah, right...just wait until they send you a bill for all the "small change" you lost. Mom'll be very happy about that, won't she?

Truthfully this thread was made just to see what people would say. With these responses though, I think I'm going to actually try this for the first month of summer and see what my results are.

So wait, you were going to go through with this regardless if you had negative feedback or positive feedback? You asshat. Go eat shit. We're trying to tell you the reality of what you want to do. You think you're the only one who's wanted to try this? Easy money is complete bullshit!! Man, go and get a job that you can have security with! Goddamn...

And then we all can say, when you're being pressured by the casino to pay the money you owe them, that we tried to talk you out of it. Really...cuz I'm betting there'll be another thread titled "I'm in gambling debt" or something similar around this time in June.

Get get a REAL job. Work. Use your brain. Burn elbow grease. Whatever. Don't be a bum at the casino with a gambling addiction and a small load of debt.

No, it was more of a troll post I was never going to do this. This post was pretty much just made to deal with my restlessness and inability to sleep from finals week Adderall. But with all the negative posts (and spare money from my current job which I have to leave because I'm moving cities) I pretty much just want to show that the goal of making a measly $100 a week at a casino playing poker isn't some unattainable goal. Not to mention, I'm ****ing 23 and graduating college in 6 months which will then be followed by attaining a real job with real money. I'm not a bum, I've had a "real" job since I was 15. Everyone is acting like I'm trying to make a living on my own by gambling, which isn't possible for anyone except the exceptional few on TV which is by no means me.

The problem with making most (if not all) of your money by gambling is that you can and will lose that money just as easily.

You'd have better odds (sorry, I had to) in security there.

I have nothing against occasional gambling, but planning to make your entire income out of it is about as likely as a grade 1 music student making a career out of music despite never going past grade 1.

EDIT: So, can we see this thread as essentially a troll thread? If so, I'll report.

Either nobody is this thread read that he was trying to play Poker, which is not a game of chance, or they don't understand how Poker works in a casino.

Truthfully if you are good enough then go for it man. Be prepared to lose though. One of my friends has won thousands in poker games, albeit not in a casino.

Sorry. I've been drinking a bit tonight (using spellcheck quite a bit). I just don't like the idea of folks not warning another fellow who's excited about a probability that rarely goes to anybody who doesn't have a savant-style comprehension of advanced mathematics. If this is really just a short-term thing then do whatever you will. Just don't give grief to your mother. Mothers don't need that. Just remember, the odds are stacked against you.

Perhaps to avoid outrage my original post should've included the fact that I'd also quit if at any time I lost more than $100. Addicts don't have limits.

LOL, so you get to select your cards, to say poker isn't a game a chance is straight up ruh-tarded. It might have a bit of strategy involved, but a shit hand is a shit hand, regardless of the bluffs

Then you don't play the hand? Oh no you lose the ante, thats nothing. You win it back. Its much more a game based on skill and deception then it is of chance.

you have no guarantee that the next hand will be any better, that's why it's a game of chance. You hope you'll win it back, you can't be sure
