In my opinion, Skrillex is the Asking Alexandria of dubstep. And I mean that in the worst way possible.

oh my god, his dubstep/ house stuff is great but that second video was annoying as shit

oh, and i think inexus might be a user here on ug... i have him on soundcloud already for some reason

Necrobump. Been digging him a lot lately, there's definitely better dubstep out there, but he isn't the worst artist ever.

You seem to be implying that there is dubstep out there that doesn't suck, which is clearly false.

brostep. it's just the shitty dubstep where it's constant drops and wobbles with no structure or direction, just flashy gimmicky music that kids on drugs think is really good

and it does have many differences. Normal dubstep focus on minimal downtempo beats that are usually quite atmospheric and the wobbles are used sparingly and with taste, so that they actually serve a purpose in the songwriting (from my experience at least, i am not an expert on dubstep)

So it's basically lowest common denominator music.

Also, without brostep we wouldn't have this guy on our internets. So it's cool.

yep. Brostep is to electronic music what deathcore is to extreme metal.

hahaha that video is great. some friends and i have been considering performing "acapella dubstep" at an open mic at college, pretty much just gonna have one guy do a beat and the rest do random obnoxious wobble noises

Can't say I hated that Free the Robot's track. I didn't listen to the whole thing, but it sounded decently chill.

5 bucks says that real dubstep doesn't have enough significant differences from brostep to make it suck any less.

You're dumb. Dubstep really sounds nothing like brostep. It's a pretty diverse genre

And Skrillex makes electro house with dubstep basses and drops, not brostep

I love Free The Robots. Not Skrillex, never.

Are we talking about the same Skrillex?

Yes. intro melody is nice but generic, then it's the same buildup he does in every song, a random shitty vocal sample and the same sounding drops just like in every song. where is the appeal, unless you're tripping on MDMA at a rave surrounded by hot bitches.

Well there's your problem. Trip with hot bitches at raves more often.

I'd rather smoke blunts with hot bitches at hip-hop shows instead

Where's the appeal of the same fuzzy guitar sound, chromatic scales and blastbeats in every single fucking song by Slayer? Where's the appeal of the same stupid-ass polyrythyms in every Meshuggah song? Where's the appeal of the same shitty whiney voice in every single Tool song?

This is my personal fav of Skrillex though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE3IslWaB4E

Is dub---sorry brostep the genre that South Park was parodying with all those fart noises?

Also, do people still make that chilled-out 'loungy' dubstep from back in the day?

Yes and yes.

Fair enough

I haven't heard much Skrillex, but I'd totally get down to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcLaYwl48v0

I really like how you assume I like Meshuggah and Tool. As for Slayer, there's energy. The riffs have power and balls to them, they energize you. Also, Slayer doesn't have blast beats, it's thrash, silly.

Good. I prefer Burial or Phaeleh type stuff as opposed to this wobbly fart music shit. Why it's all the rage I have no clue. It's good dance music I guess.

EDIT: Not to derail, but could you maybe direct me toward some of the more 'lounge'step artists?

Lol I wasn't assuming anything about you, they're bands that I enjoy, but the point was that you can look at anything and claim that it's "objectively bad".

Chicken-rape is pretty objectively bad.

beadhanger, check the Free The Robots track I posted earlier in this thread. Good album.

Coreysmonster, must you be so literal? Obviously music can't really be objectively bad, I was exaggerating to stress how fucking terrible Skrillex is.
