i picked this up for 50 bucks from a friend who never played it. it even had the plastic on the pickguard still. after i adjusted the neck and action i was surprised at how well it plays. granted it does not compare to my ESPs, but not bad. i also just bought some fender pickups and a pickguard(H/S/S) for $45. im painting the body white this weekend.

itll be the best hundred bucks i ever spent.

unless its a tele, i have no use for a bridge singlecoil. ive always wanted a white strat with a brown pickguard anyway. i dont like that kind of burst finish.

If I were you if you havent already, I'd see if you could trade someone for a white body, so it'd be factory finish, someone might even trade a MIM body for a sunburst squier body
#7
might i suggest not getting fender pickups? because then you pay for quality and not name...

i am actually liking the rail pickups by gfs... they are actually pretty good imo, and don't sound as whimpy as most single coils do.
#8
the pickups were 35 bucks. i dont mind the sound of stock fender pickups for this particular guitar. im not using it for metal.

i got some arctic white paint and good clear coat. i already prepped it and laid the first 2 coats tonight. it looks like the body is alder or agathis maybe.

alright. my pickups and pickguard came in. i accidentally ordered a red pickguard instead of brown, not sure if i like it. what do you think?

also, the fender standard pickups still had the plastic on them. score.

dont mind the paintjob. i'm not finished.

Well it seems you took a $50.00 guitar and modded it with a lot of work and effort, if it suits you that is great but how it does it feel? I have several guitars that cost thousands and a few that cost less than $200. Most are in the $800.-$1,500 range...I shop like crazy at pawn shops and if you really hunt for them true gems can be found. I think you did good on this project, but it seems it is a thing you enjoy, doing the mod I mean. Still to get some practice as a luthier is never a bad thing, hands on is always the best teacher. Well done.

i had to redo the white cuz there were too many high spots.

normally i wouldnt have given a squier a second look, but the fit/finish/playability is quite exceptional. so i went for it.

the original plan was to flip it, then i was like **** that i'm keeping it. lol

Nice find TS. Absolutely nothing wrong with Squier, a bit of love and attention goes a long way. I swear by my (heavily) modded bullet.

i don't think you'd want much paint in the pocket.

otherwise, looking good.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

i always go light on the pocket when painting. i did so much block sanding near the bridge i'll have to readjust it anyway though.

ready to paint

alright i got tired of the twangy, glassy, harsh fender humbucker and got a duncan custom custom and a brown pickguard like i originally wanted. i'm very happy with this guitar now.

Totally cool, you can never have too many guitars!

And yeah I thought the red pickguard was a little too much

Oh, and for resonance . . . smack an open A chord and hold the body and see if it vibrates like a middle-aged woman's best friend.

i also looked up the actual model, and it's a classic vibe '60s which cost $350 new and it was basically brand new before i molested it. SCORE
