So I just returned home after my term at college, overjoyed to play my electric again. Unfortunately, my first day back, I break a string. No biggie, I go to the guitar store to get another pack; they've been sitting on the guitar for quite a while while it was stored away.
But today, just this next day, I break the same string again. Both were broken in the same way: right at the bridge (Tune-O-Matic), both were the D string, and I believe both were broken when I was playing rather hard, although in different tunings (E standard before, C# standard this time). Is there a particular reason why I might be getting breakage in that one place, on that one string, something to do with the bridge, for example?

you could have a sharp edge where the string rests at the bridge

Any easy way of fixing that?

I'm a big fan of roller bridges, if you're looking for a quicker, more expensive but less work, kind of fix.
