Hello, pit.

Just as the title says, do you think it would be possible to live a fully nocturnal lifestyle? Say your 8 hours of sleep would be somewhere from 10:00am to 6:00pm, and you would be awake for the rest of the time. Could you pull it off for the rest of your life?

Personally, i think you could. After adapting to the sleeping pattern, you could work the night shifts in various jobs for money, although work opportunities might be a bit limited. As for shopping for food, well you could go shopping sometime before you go to sleep or right after you wake up. What do you guys think?

Your body would have trouble with it, seeing as it relies on the sun to initiate necessary chemical balances and routines. It would certainly be possible, but would take a great toll on your body.

Of course it's possible.

As for your food plan, many Wal-marts and Food Lions are open 24 hours. I'm sure there are a lot of people in huge cities that actually do live that way.

An altered / reversed sleep pattern is typically associated with mental problems, usually depression. It is actually a cyclic relationship. Depression disturbs sleep patterns, and disturbed sleep patterns worsen depression.

It's possible, I did that for a few days while I was staying at my friends last summer.

Ended up sleeping 16 hours or something

Just part of being a teen.

Before I had this damn early morning job I hate, I'd fall asleep at dusk and wake up around 1 or 2. Wasn't asleep at night. Not exactly nocturnal but still.

It's totally possible. A lot more plausible if someone isn't as connected to the routine typical work day.

People do this extremely often. Not everyone works during the day, alot of people work midnight shifts. At my work for example there are people who work 6 days a week 9pm to 6am and have been for the last 20 years. It's not uncommon.

i kinda do this cept for the whole sleeping at night part
...whn i dont have work or school i am uup til like 5 in the morning
when i do have school or work i am up til like 4

...thats almost nocturnal

It's possible, but unhealthy regardless. The tolls on my body from my 2am-12pm summer sleep schedule magnified wouldn't be the most pleasing lifestyle....

Living the nocturnal life.
Living the dream.

I hate that the day dwellers have the power over how society works.
Makes me an outcast by default.

Also.. living in the northern hemisphere north enough and your whole winter is night time & whole summer is day time 24/7.. So much for getting enough sunlight and seasons... I dunno, what not.

I'm off to suck blood or something, pet my dog.
Say goodnight to the world...

Well... mammals started as a nocturnal species. Dinosaurs were the dominant life form and thus hunted during the day. This is evident by the superior vision that reptiles posses, while many mammals (such as dogs) are colour blind. So it is very possible to lead a nocturnal life style. Science FTW.

Here's my current life schedule:

Monday: Wake up at 6:40 AM (school). Go to sleep at 11 PM
Tuesday: Wake up at 6:40 AM. Go to sleep at 1 AM
Wednesday (on 4-day work week): Wake up at 6:40 AM. Take nap at noon. Wake up at 4 PM. Work from 7PM to 7AM on Thursday.
Thursday: Go to bed at 9AM. Wake up at 4PM. Work from 7PM to 7AM on Friday
Friday: Go to bed at 9AM. Wake up at 4PM. Work from 7PM to 7 AM on Saturday.
Saturday: Go to bed at 9 AM Wake up at 4PM. Work from 7PM to 7AM Sunday
Sunday: Band practice at 8AM after work. Go to sleep somewhere between noon and 2PM.
and it repeats itself. Though every other week, I only work 3 days instead of 4.

Bakers.
Thats why there is always fresh bread in the morning.

I had a family friend who was a baker, and everytime I would go over he would be asleep.

That's pretty much what my body want to work on. If i didnt have class/work I'd just stay up late and not go to bed till i'm sleepy and it's probably stabilize in roughly similar times.

To be honest i think it would be harder to the kind of in between fully nocturnal and diumal. For example, one of the guys that delivers the bread to the supermarket i work in, has to leave for work at 3am every morning.

When you are not doing a fully nocturnal thing, you are still kind of required to integrate fully into a "normal" life.

I think you misread his post, he was talking about evolution and how it could be possible for humans to be nocturnal.

I did it for a year. Don't. Eventually you'll need alot more than 8 hours. By the end of it I was sleeping upwards of 14 hours a day. My entire life was sleep and work.

Don't

I worked night stocking at Walmart for 6 months a couple of years ago and my body was messed up when return back to college; I lost a lot of weight and look sick most of the time. But hey, I guess that's just how my body reacted to the nocturnal life. And during winter and summer breaks I tend to sleep during the day and stay active at nights.

My Auld man used to work night shift and would work from 8pm til 5.45am and would sleep from 6.30am to about 1-2pm - he did that for 23 years before changing job.

I think yes it would be possible to live like that
#34
Yeah it's possible, but it's not nice. My boyfriend used to work a job with swinging shifts of 6am–2pm, next week 2pm–10pm, and then a third week of 10pm–6am. The night shifts used to make him a grumpy little bitch, so I wouldn't recommend it.
