hey all,
Just wondering on scales diagrams what should the dots in the middle be i understand there where you put your fingers (well i think that's right very new to it all). But what should the dots to put your fingers be, should they be numbers 1 2 3 4 with the numbers representing each finger.
eg. index would be number one, your pinky would be four.

Now that's the way i saw it the first time but Ive also seen them represented in a a# b c... so on....
So yeah my question basically is what should the dots be? some one must know.
I can understand it wouldn't actually hugely matter which it is, I'd just like to know the right way

If you don't under stand what i mean by dots look in this diagram, the o's are the dots

3 4 5 6
|o|-|-|o|
|o|-|-|o|
|o|-|o|-|
|o|-|o|-|
|o|-|o|-|
|o|-|-|o|

(I've looked through the sticky it didn't seem to answer much)

the dots are where you put your fingers, when playing a scale you want to use you're fingers as one per fret, so on that scale it would be

1 4
1 4
1 3
1 3
1 3
1 4
where
1 - index
2. middle
3. ring
4. pinky

same works with all scales and arpeggios
its when you come to use them in your own work that you can start messing about with fingerings for the scales to make them fit with phrases.
