Anybody else find this to be true? I own a PC, and it seems like I've had slower internet connection and more timeouts ever since my mom got a MacBook, and it's even more so when my sister comes home, who also has a Mac/iPhone.

Wouldn't it just be the fact that you have more devices connecting to the internet, rather than the Apple product themselves?

Keep in mind I have no idea how internet and networking and bandwidth work, but this is just what I think.

Your mom and sister are just (bandwidth) whores.
For Frodo!

No, they do not. You now have 3 devices sharing a single connection, it has nothing to do with Mac v PC (PS. are you crazy asking a question like this?)

That being said, it depends on how you use it. If you have lots of programs and widgets on your Mac running, then it will probably use more bandwidth. But that is on you the user, not the hardware or software.

Heh, I'm definitely not tech-savvy, so I'd never make the right assumption (although admittedly it was rather obvious). I guess it is the combined effect of all the computers in the house, but I just wanted to know if the hardware had anything to do with it.

Yes, Steve Jobs is on the other end of the line, sucking all the internets out of your computer.

Haha. I meant that you are inviting fanboys (on both sides) to start ranting and raving. You will find that for every 10 normal PC or Mac users there is one douche bag that will tell you the other side are idiots.

Bloated Mac software is bloated.

except that has nothing to do with the network.

you need to look at your configuration and find out which devices are wireless. find out what router you have, since there may be some incompatibility issues if you have a wireless G router. also, look at the router's log and see if you can find anything regarding excessive bandwidth usage. you can access the router's log by typing its local IP address in your address bar to pull up the router's settings. usually, this IP is either 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.1.1.

also find out if your mom/sister do anything that involves heavy network traffic. do they have mobileme by any chance? (probably not, because it's a waste of money, but it's worth asking)
