Why can't we just drill hundreds of deep holes into the heart of the Yellowstone super volcano, and pour a continuous stream of water down into the magma chamber? This will turn magma into rock, and lower the temperature, thus lowering pressure levels, so the volcano won't explode. And it is is possible to drill such deep holes, we're already doing it when drilling for oil.
