Just really want to know what the prefrences of metal heads mostly tend to be these days.

Like, what do you like about songs, what do you want to hear in them, parts of songs you always look forward to.

-Every song 4 minuets of blast beats, chugging and growling.
-Mixtures of heavy riffs and more melodic parts
-More melodic then growl growl *snare snare snare snare*
- 4 powerchord proggression with high pitched vocals and 7 guitar solos

I am just curious to what other metalheads like in songs

PS: Don't just say genres. Things like Melodic Death Metal and Thrash Metal can still leave alot unanswerd to what people generally like/want.

I really like those metal songs that have guitars and drums and stuff. ya know, the ones that usually have vocals too, right? they're pretty cool I guess

well... these metal heads you speak of... do they really have heads that consist of metal? What metal exactly? Copper? Gold? Iron? These are fascinating creatures you speak of and we must study them.

Wow, man I LURVE Minuette's in my metal. All neo-classical and shit. Like Randy Rhoades aye?

I like to see prog bands going back to their classical roots, that along side an amazing clean vocal section is some powerfull stuff.

I also like bands that know how to feel emotions other than the usual anger fueled 'mosh till you drop' frame of mind. Its a rare and amazing thing to listen to an album/song that brings you to tears as well as making you want to kick the shit out of someone!

This helps if a band can swiftly transition from some beastly beat down low end riff to an epic melodic section without the need of a break/ overkill clean section

Examples. I don't think I have ever heard of a band doing this well.

The contortionist - flourish, oscillator, vessel to name a few
The human abstract - patterns, complex terms, faust
Protest the hero - too many to name
Periphery - most of the self titled album
Tesseract - concealing fate - all of it
After the burial - most songs
Textures - Awake (possibly the best one), laments of an icarus

Okay, I get what you are referring to. When you said that I had a different style in mind.

its not Djent its prog

and judging by your 'favorite artists' lists id be right in saying that the majority of it is death metal, aswell as some classic rock and some random rap artists

i didnt assume anything . . .

I like a song with a solid groove to it. I also like rhythms that defy my expectations, although not necessarily to the extent that Meshuggah does it (though I do like Meshuggah and some of the more well known djent bands*). Think something akin to Scar Symmetry or Sybreed.

gtfo, none if it is prog, go die, etc

Seriously though, nothing progressive at all about any of the bands on that list.

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

That technique is horrible. Being threatened with violence can be scary but being threatened by someone crying is just silly.
Or disturbing, depending on your delivery of the crying...

...and the threatening.
