does it have to be a high-wattage head and 4x12? if so, unless you get a really good deal second-hand (or new, I guess), then not so much.

But if you're easy on what exactly constitutes a head an cab (i.e. are willing to consider lower wattage amps, and 1x12 or 2x12 cabs), then you can do ok for around £400 (though your choices will still be limited, but it's not impossible).
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

With that budget consideration, a combo will give you more bang for your buck than a mini stack.

If you're willing to get a combo, you could probably find an ENGL Screamer 50 112 on ebay for somewhere around your budget, ****ing excellent amps they are.

You could look into a Jet city JCA 20h with matching cab, every online store in England seems to have them on clearance (probably because the new ones are coming out soon).

Try the Marshall MG15HDFX [not sure about the name]
Use a distortion pedal through it if you don't like the amp's distortion.

^ yeah you can get them here... thomann's probably the cheapest place to get them (much cheaper than dawsons, though you have to get hold of your own power cable).

I meant what I said. The MG distortion sucks, so put a flippin' dist. pedal through it.
