This is definitely quite a stupid question, but I'm new to the whole stack business, so I've decided that I should seek some advice, hah.

Well, I'm buying a new head soon (MAYBE my friends Traynor YCS100h tomorrow), and I'm looking for a 4x12 cab to go with it. I intend on getting an Avatar, but that's going to run me about $800 (Canadian). I'm looking for something good, because I don't want to have to upgrade again any time soon. So, I definitely like the Avatar, but I was thinking there could be some less-expensive alternative that I could go for. Any suggestions of other cabs?

Oh yeah, I play a bit of everything, really. So versatility is always nice

Thanks!

Well, you could always get a 2x12. What are you planning to use it for anyway? Gigs? Studio? Practice?

Gigs, mostly. I'm keeping my SS for practice.

Ebay is great for cabs!

You don't really want to cheap out on the cab really. That's what I've done for the past year due to bad money situations.
If you can get a 2x12 with some decent speakers for an alright price that should have you sounding alright.

I'm not sure on the prices or availability in Canada, but probably the best deal on a cab around me (UK) is probably the Framus 2x12 with Celestion V30s, though there would probably be some better options used.

I hear Marshall do alright 2x12 cabs (I think 4x12 would be overkill, you could get a better quality 212 for cheaper), and Orange and Mesa have a good reputation for their cabs too.

Just look around and try to get lucky for a decently priced cab.

Go used. I got my Mesa 4x12 for $500 and I've seen lower prices since. I've seen Orange 2x12 on craigslist for $300-400. Deals are out there if you're patient enough. If you're not in a rush I'd personally just wait it out until something comes up you're interested in.

North America isn't the size of a postage stamp like merry old England.

Cab shipping costs are like taking a baseball bat in the ass.
