I was thinking of going from the Light Elixir strings (9-42) to Ernie Ball Power
Slinkys (11-48). Not sure if the extra 0.06 mm is too big for the low E string
slot in the nut. Last time I tried Slinky Top Heavy Bottoms (10-52), the 0.10
mm difference was too much, and had to file the nut [this was on a different
guitar, though].

Also, will the blocked tremolo need to be adjusted? I thought about the tension
on the the springs, but don't know if it's enough to really affect anything.

When I changed my string gauge to .11 the string wouldn't fit in the nut, so what I did is took a nail file and opened the slot up a little bit and it popped right in.

I dunno about the blocked tremolo, but nothing happened on my Paul Allender PRS when I went from the standard PRS strings (idk what gauge... I think 10...) to 11.
Guitar/bass/mandolin stuff:

PRS SE Paul Allender
Martin DCX1E
Squire Start
Memphis Bass
Johnson Savannah mando

I changed all my guitars up to 10-52's no problems at all. Hell on my Eclipse I went up t 11-54 or 56, can't remember, because I was tuning it to C for Dethklok songs and it still all fit in absolutely fine.

Edit: I use Elixir as well. But for the thicker ones I had to use Ernie Ball because my local store doesn't stock Elixir that thick.

Deadly: Alright, I'm sure there's a nail file laying around the house just in case.

mahabajaba: never heard of an eclipse. I'm using a 96' MiM Strat with a plain
old plastic nut.

i have a '94 MIM strat, and i use 11's, with no issue. had 12's on it for a while for slide and that worked too.

you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Ah, ok. Just making sure. The Eclipse mentioned earlier sounded like one
of those guitars with the locking nut, but it's not. Thanks people.
