I'm building a flat top mahogany telecaster with a HSH pickup setup. My current problem is that I have routed the neck pocket for my strat neck, however I have a Gotoh tune o matic bridge and tailpiece. As I understand it, I have three options:
1. Shim or somehow change neck pocket for neck angle
2. Recess TOM bridge into body to compensate for lack of neck angle
3. Sell up and buy a hard tail

Option 2 sounds easiest to me.

My question is, if I recess the bridge, will I have to ditch the tailpiece and use a string through setup? If not, do I just recess the tailpiece to the same depth as the bridge (about 1/4" I've heard)

Also, am I going to end up with a string radius that doesnt agree with the rest of the guitar?

Thanks

Recessing the TOM is the best option here. You could either recess the tailpiece or do a string through, both these methods work though recessing the tailpiece is probably the easier of the 2.

So do I have to recess the tailpiece deep than the bridge to achieve make sure the strings press against the bridge or something?

Have you actually measured the action or are you just assume you need to recess because its a tom?
