I've been trying to see the bigger picture lately and the only explanation I've come across for putting rhythm and melody together is this.


Hell, the author might even read these forums. I did find it odd he didn't mention chord tones / passing tones in the first part though.

So, is this a good base to start? I hear terms like comping and soloing being thrown around in other place and I can see the relationship to rhythm and melody but I'm not sure how to connect them. If you could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
well when he says there's an F#dim7 in the key of G major he's wrong; it's an F#m7b5. I'm not saying it's a bad article, but I'd suggest looking around on purely guitar-orientated sites if you want to learn about guitary things, such as, oh I don't know, ultimate-guitar's lessons?
