Headstock photos would really help. Though, considering you bought it for $25, I'd say it's firewood (unless the seller knew absolutely nothing about it).

No real identifying marks on it, however there is a "10" stamped inside it. It sounds quite bright, but slightly banjo-y. And yes, the seller knew absolutely nothing about it. It was her fathers, but he passed away and gave it to her, and she didn't want it so she sold it.

Sorry mate, no sweet clue. It's definitely old, but I'd recommend taking it to a luthier and try to have him ID it.
