What amp should i buy? I have about $500 to spend and i play in a punk/alternative band. I had couple of amps before that, most recent one was marshall 30FX (I really didin't like it). I was looking at a buying a fender or a peavey amp.

look for a used peavey ultra combo/head. If you want new look at the JCA line of amps very impressive, and easy on the wallet.
2002 PRS CE22
2013 G&L ASAT Deluxe
2009 Epiphone G-400 (SH-4)
Marshall JCM2000 DSL100
Krank 1980 Jr 20watt
Krank Rev 4x12 (eminence V12)
GFS Greenie/Digitech Bad Monkey
Morley Bad Horsie 2
MXR Smart Gate

Yeah, dude. Fender isn't normally worth anything. I hate fender. If you were to get a Spider 4, you would be helping yourself. I fell in love with that amp, and they are relatively cheap.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. But I can't really save up right now cuz my old amp broke and i have couple of gigs next month yeah, not the best situation. Oh and BTW i really dislike line 6 amps.

Do you have an effects board? I'd invest in some kind of effects processor before upgrading amp.

i'm a fan of the ultras. cool amps and a lot of tone for the buck. i agree it's very versatile.

but an ac30 for $550 (maybe the guy takes $500? who knows) is pretty tempting too.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

Get whatever amp you like best. Go to your local guitar shop and line up a bunch of amps and take your own guitar and try a bunch to find out. If you are looking for big and cheep, the peavey valveking. They are plenty loud and quite versatile. Fender amps aren't that great for rock and metal but are awesome for blues and clean work. Don't get a marshall MA... Anyway the best way is just to try a bunch at a music store. Bring a friend if you need help.

The valveking combo is a decent little amp. I like it! There are 2 sizes one is a 1x12 and one is a 2x12. Go and try one
