If you don't have a melody in your head while you're writing it, you're probably doing something wrong.

It seems like you're writing words, not songs. Get the whole thing swimming around in your head before you start putting out words for it.

If the song is about a dude who is like really cool and is walking down the streets with his ray abn etc you can use funky counting where the and is to late.
If it's sad you should do it slow
Happy more fast and with of beat eight notes etc.
Yiu can vary.

its much easier if there is music already done,then u can try matching the songs u wrote with the music,9 times out of ten it will be pretty easy to do.
