I am thinking of start going to jam sessions every now and then. I went to one a while ago and didn't know any of the songs they played. I had to improvise over a 12 bar blues and it was a complete car crash, as I can't improvise to save my life. I'm mainly a rhythm player.

What songs should I learn to play at a jam sessions?

- It's at a pub from 3 - 7, so it has to be "radio friendly" to a certain degree.

- Has to be a popular song that the band will know

Nothing too challenging.

So far I've got

Paranoid - Black Sabbath

It's My Life - Bon Jovi

Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Guns 'N Roses

White Wedding - Billy Idol

All Right Now - Free

D'yer Maker - Led Zeppelin

Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams

Bohemian Like You - The Dandy Warhols

Any other suggestion?

Some good songs have already been suggested (and some silly ones too), as for improvising, i would advise brushing up on scales, seriously, i didn't really care too much about learning scales for a long time, but after actually going through some of it, it made me realize how boring my soloing sounded before learning them.
