In Matt's intro solo to Say Goodnight by Bfmv, is there sweep picking?
This is what's played:

D|-15p14-------------15p14------------
A|-----15---------------15---------
F|---------14-12~~~--------14------
C|-------------------------------14~~~
G|-------------------------------------
D|------------------------------------

I play it like this:

D|-15p14-------------15p14------------
A|-------15----------------15---------
F|----------14-12~~~----------14--9~~~
C|------------------------------------
G|------------------------------------
D|------------------------------------

In Padge's solo, there's this. It looks the most like sweep picking since it's straight down and sounds fast:

D|-------------------------------------12h14h15-14~~-
A|----------------------------12h13h15---------------
F|-------------------11h12h14-----------------------
C|----------10h12h14-------------------------------
G|-10h12h14-----------------------------------------
D|------------------------------------------------------------

Just trying to get my ear to recognize technique.

1st bit is sweeps. That last bit you put is just a legato run, it's not a sweep arpeggio.

*edit*

I thought rakes where muted? Where as here each note is heard, like a sweep arpeggio

First part:
Does it have to be swept (if that's a word)? I'm not able to replicate the technique yet, the way I play
It is similar to an open D major chord in standard tuning. Use the ring finger for the first 3 notes and
Middle and index for last 2 notes.

Rakes are muted. They can be used to make bends sound great.
Legato run sounds appropriate.

First bit can be swept if you prefer, second bit is your traditional 3-note-per-string legato run

Can't sweep pick yet, but I can play it fast enough after changing a note or two where they're in an easier pattern.
Yeah, I thought legato sounded appropriate. Thanks.
