Hey guys,

I need to get my hands on a jaguar 24' scale neck.I was doing a jaguar project and I made the body myself and got a squier neck . I didn't know about the scale length at the time(first build) so that came back and bit me grr !.
I was looking at sites like
http://www.byoguitar.com/Guitars/Replacement-Neck-for-Jaguar__AP-JGRO.aspx
http://www.dguitarparts.com/inc/sdetail/550
and warmoth .

Warmoth only offer 10-16 'compound radius' , as opposed to 7.25 on old jags. Would the 10 and 7 radius necks be the same dimensions at the heel (end joint) of the guitar .i.e would both guitars fit the joint and inotate correctly.Would there be a big difference in playability as i really like the width of strat sized necks and do favor these necks over thicker bigger types e.g. les paul ?
Ideally i'd like to have a finished neck but the cost is a real issue, these necks are unfinished (optional extra at warmoth). The other option I was looking at is http://cgi.ebay.ie/2010-Fender-Blacktop-Jaguar-NECK-Guitar-Vintage-RI-/200585155151?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2eb3ce924f
It's a fender blacktop neck, it is probably finished but will the 9' neck work ?

1) Is there any other sites out there that do suitable necks. Of the above listed which do you think is best ?
2) I've heard mustang necks are also compatable, is this true and is there any site for cheap mustang necks ?
3) Is there a big difference between finished and unfinished necks (I've only played finished and wont get a chance to try both styles before order is made )

Any advice is really appreciated !

Cheers

Oh dear God! A twenty-four-foot scale!

Like LeviMan said, radius doesn't matter. Also, Mustang and jaguar necks are pretty much identical. Finish-wise, it's a matter of taste--some people don't notice the difference, some people have a strong preference. Personally, I hate gloss-finished necks.

Hey

Thanks for the info guys

Am i correct in sayin that the bigger the radius the flatter and wider the guitar is hence more suitable for 'shredding' while the lower the radius the more comfortable it is for playing chords (my preference) ? .

Would there be a big difference when the guitar is in your hand between the 7'-9' and the 9' to the '10-16 compound' ?

Has anyone ordered or had experience off the sites linked in the 1st post and does anyone know of anyother sites that have good deals for a 24scale neck?

Cheers

Hey guys,

Decided to go with a Jag neck on ebay which actually came with fender tuners also. Its the required 24 scale neck with the 9 radius from reliablefender/thestratosphere.

I'll post pics of the finished product in my original build thread. Check it out if your planning on doing a jag build. Theres a lot of useful info and it'll help you avoid some of the mistakes i made .
