Well,
The title tells everything and that's basically all I know.
I came to my studio space and there were 15 cop cars parked outside. They took all the computers and I doubt I'll ever get my recording computer back.
So, I'm in the market to get a recording computer for as cheap as possible. Here are some of my requirements.

1.Needs to be able to handle 7 or 8 tracks being recorded at once.
2.Handle 4 or 5 vst/vstis at the same time.
3.A firewire port
4.5 usb ports
5.Supports atleast 2 monitors
6.4 or 6 gigs of ram
7.Windows 7 or Xp

Would I be able to grab a computer with these specs for under $500?
I'm tight on cash because recording people was my main income for gear but now there has been a rut in this.

Any help is appriciated.

Oh tough stuff, but yeah you should be able to for around $500, assuming they just took the computer tower.

They just came and served a warrant and took it? That blows man.

I'll be first to say it, why the **** did they take your computers....?

EDIT: TO LATE

Where should I begin to look for a computer, Last one I bought from best buy but all I need this the specs I listed. I'm glad they didn't take my digi 002 or my gt-10s

Actually, I was getting off school and rolled up on my place and there was 15 cop cars there and they had a warrent and just took stuff

To be honest, not sure where to look as I am very hands on prefer to put my own stuff together even if the price isn't as good. You could probably just got to best buy and say you want these specifications, but you will prob need to know a CPU speed that can record that many tracks at once. I have never recorded that much at once so I can't really help you there.

Your warrant should have explained what and why they took everything.

He said he can't tell me because it's part of an on going investigation. All it said was they are to confiscate anything relevent to their investigation.

Holy shit man, whatd you have on that computer?

Child pornography was my first thought, but that doesn't seem to fit with his story.

You'll probably want at least a 2.5ghz i5, if you can get one of the quadcore i7s that would be great too. Really any sandybridge i5 or 7 equipped machine will have everything you need.

I think you should be more worried about paying a good lawyer before you buy a new computer.

The cheapest i7 is almost half of his budget, and you realize an i5 is also a quad core? The only difference between an i5 and i7 is that i7 has hyperthreading (virtual cores, that don't really help anything besides rendering). I usually don't comment on stuff like this because it's too hard to break it down for most people..but sometimes this forum really makes me headdesk.

This... ongoing investigation of what? What was their probable cause? Etc. (I'm no legal adviser, just nosy.)

Newegg.

I've ordered thousands of dollars of parts from there over the years, wouldn't recommend anywhere else (if you live in the US or Canada).

Well, it kind of does; it was your computer, right?

Kyle - If I were you, I'd just shut up about this. It might not have anything to do with you, but you are implicated for some reason. It's not that any of us aren't interested. In fact, I'd pose the opposite to be true. We're probably all fascinated to find out what the hell this is about.

But...

The statements you make on line CAN be used in court. I know a person from another forum whose on-line (but off-topic) posts on a music forum were printed off by the opposing lawyer and successfully used as evidence against him in court. (they were proven to be linked to him based on a variety of factors)

The less you say here on that matter, the better.

We'll I haven't said anything incriminating of myself or others. I need to know if the Newegg computer packages come with an operating system

Not yet, but the more you say, the more you will be tempted to say, or the more others will lead you to saying. Just stop talking about the confiscation, that's all.

If your buying individual parts individually sometimes you can get a deal like half off or something.

Also check Tigerdirect.com

I am not sure if it was axemanchrist or disarm though who said you can get a better deal just buying one then building your own.

I've seen axeman say that on a few threads. ...lol christ!
Anyway, I was thinking you should get a $700 PC which will come with a 360. Then sell the 360 for $250 online or something and now you got a $700 computer for $450!

Hopefully they just give you your computer back.

You actually get the 4gb Xbox which sells for $200 new. You might get $150 for it if you're lucky.

Still, it wouldn't be bad. I can record 8 tracks at once with an i3 no problem. As long as you record before adding all of your effects and vst's, you shouldn't need too much computer power, really.
