Hey guys,

I'm just wondering from a rhythm guitarists perspective, i'm just wondering what sort of gear you should have to get a good rhythm tone for thrash metal.

I've done some reading and most rhythm players prefer to not use any kind of distortion pedal and rely on good amp distortion...but what else is needed in the mix?

thanks

A good amp, maybe a reverb and/or delay. That's my entire rig when I play rythm. For lead, add a boost pedal and maybe a wah.

PS. I'm a bit of a minimalist when it comes to pedals.

@PsiGuy,

I'm the same...i'm not a fan of using too many pedals...do u think a compressor and an equalizer are necessary though?

an eq could help.
comp is unnecessary with a good amp

I would use a JCM800

EQ can help if you just can't seem to get the exact tone you want from your amp.
Compressor is bollocks for rythm, in my opinion.

most of my friends are into marshalls and their jaws drop when i tell 'em this...but i honestly prefer mesa tones...i played on a dual rectifier once and the distortion just got my blood pumping... but i'm thinkin of investing in something from the mark series at one point

I'm a student. I've got no time or space for an amp!

Is there any relevance at all to this post?
I think not. *report*

Ontopic: You really don't need a lot of pedals for thrash rhythm guitar - you just need a good amp.
