Hi, I just wanted to know about any (preferably) famous musicians that predominantly play in the same key within songs or improvisations.

SRV in E or E flat depending on tuning. I think it's more to do with WHERE on the fretboard, rather than an actual preference in pitch

for improv stuff, that would probably be the case. everyone has certain sweet spots they love playing on. and I suppose that would really vary from guitar to guitar as well.

but it could also be for singing too. some singers like certain keys more than others because of their vocal range and stuff.

could also have to do with the instrument. I once wrote a song in B major on the guitar (capo 2, played A shapes) and a friend of mine who plays piano was very upset with me.

thrash metal is usually E. except slayer is D#. i belive that you dont have to detune in order to sound heavy.
