So want one of these.

These things are supposedly going to be cheaper than a 6505/6505+ head!

Gahhh of course I just got myself a 5150 recently without knowing this is coming out.

Probably gonna stick with what I've got but I'd rather have 50 watts.

Which means they'll run about $600 or so on the used market... Provided people buy them en masse.

Also I thought you didn't want any more new amps?

Is it made in China?

I thought EVH head are famed for the high prices. In any case, given that its so close to Summer NAMM I thought EVH would wait till then for the announcement and release to tap on the media exposure.

It's supposed to come out in July, the EVHs right now are already made in Mexico. If it sounds like the 5150 III, but with 50 less watts, it might actually be a viable replacement for my 5150

The street price is supposedly going to be $999, we'll see, that's half the 100W version.

Hmm... then, they'll probably peg the release date immediately after Summer NAMM - it is in July.

I thought the 5150 III are supposed to be quite a major step-up from the Peavey 5150s?

Haha I thought you said you already have the amps you needed?

I would love to hear a proper demo of these, but, unlike the 5150/6505's, ALL THE FUCKING DEMOS ARE VAN HALEN

I do, but I remember the 100w version seriously kicking ass. For the price I imagine these going for on the used market, I could afford to keep it around

At the studio where my band used to practice at they had a 5150III. The thing was a beast I absolutely loved playing it. I really want one of these, but I'm not sure now that my amp collection is complete.... to a small level of contentedness

It is Outrageous. It's a 3 channel amp and your telling me your okay with just hearing Atomic Punk and Everybody Wants Some on every F***ing review? Something is outrageous with that!

Made in Mexico tells it all. It's most likely a one-trick pony. I have yet to see anyone play a strat on it, which is what i'm waiting for.

EDIT: It's a $2,000 Head for 100 watts, nothing should sound like shit out of it. I couldn't see many people wanting to drop that much money on it unless they can plug something that isn't necessarily for cranking out VH covers 24/7. I know I wouldn't.

Yeah... nah.

Also I know one of the guys from As I Lay Dying uses one of these, and so do the guys from Gojira, etc.

On every channel (during a demo) a VAN HALEN song was played. I havent tried it out in person and i'm dying to, but from the horrible demos every channel had either more gain on tap or was just thicker. You just helped confirm it was a one-trick pony by listing metal bands that use it, because obviously an amp with many gain stages and options is what dudes like that want. I was speaking on the basis of TONE VERSATILITY, not BROOTZ.

If your trying to flame me to hell, you can at least agree that the demos so far were done horribly.

Cheaper than a new 6505, and you get a Fender clean channel. Yes please.

Excuse my ignorance on the matter but I have never played any of the 5150 series at all, but I thought that when Eddie left Peavey they renamed the 5150 the 6505 (for legal reasons I assume) but it was literally exactly the same amp, circuitry and everything. Now I believe that it's Fender that the new 5150's are being sold though? Is it not exactly the same amp again, or has he redesigned it? I did notice that this is a three channel though and the previous models have been two channels as far as I'm aware, so I guess there obviously is differences.

Cheers to anyone that clarify these points for me.
#30
Yes, the new EVH 5150 III is a rather different amp from the old Peavey 5150.

Better cleans is a notable difference, as well as being a bit closer to Eddie's sound.

Not just better cleans but 'Fender' cleans

Not sure about that but it does have a dedicated clean channel.

It also has something like 8 preamp tubes

riffhog used to own one and I played one briefly.

It was down to this and a Splawn when I made my decision and I spoke to riffhog and MC and a few other dudes at length before making my decision. The head was $2,000 back then. It is only $1,800 now.

I believe the mini is $999 as mentioned but it doesn't actually come out and say that in the MF add - as it pairs it with either a 212 ($1499 total) or a 112 ($1369 total)

FWIW, the original 5150 III utterly destroys the Carvin V3, so if the 50w version is anything like it, it's going to be a steal for $999.
