You need to spend less time in the pit and the electric guitars section if you think you're going to get trolled for everything.
Also give us a little more credit than that.

And it's not fret buzz. Fret buzz involves frets, not open strings, hence 'fret' buzz.

Do you hear the noise through an amp or just on the bass itself?

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

**** you gilly, it's not what you think

Check if it's the tuning peg rattling.

Or is the string loose in the nut?

It can still be fret buzz. My friends bass did that on the open A. You probably need a set up. Fret buzz is the string being too low and touching a fret. Or it could be loose in the nut.

It depends. Don't go to Guitar Center. Try the local shops first. Should be around 15-20 dollars. Or, do it yourself. I don't know how, but, I hear its fairly easy. You will need some tools. Run a google search.

EDIT ---

That is BARE minimum. Tell them you want your truss rod adjusted.

That should be standard for both electric and acoustic.

BTW, I played one of those. Every time, it tore my left hand to shreds. Frets were sharp. I hope yours is better!

A setup on an acoustic bass is going to be a lot different to an electric, less adjustable parts. Hopefully your issue is a quick truss rod adjustment, otherwise you might end up paying a luthier to the point where it would be a better financial decision to use the Dean as firewood.

We don't have "stupid trolls" in here either, only the ones that float in from EG and GG&A and try to be funny every so often.
