What is the difference between a peavey 6505 and an evh 5150.

Same amp.

Peavey 5150 = 6505
Peavey 5150 Mk2 = 6505+

The EVH 5150 III is a completely different amp. From what I've read, the only real difference between the 5150 and 6505 models is the quality of parts used unless the amp is modded.

Something about the 6505 just doesn't sound so good. But yes as stated they are essentially the same amp.
#4
I reckon it's because virtual no 5150 has stock tubes/parts which impacts on the sound

I talked to a guitar tech guy in a local music store recently about amp models.

I remember he said that the 5150, 5150 II, 6505, and 6505+ all have slightly different toning.

With the 5150, you'll probably have better cleans, 6505 probably better leads.
I don't remember the difference between the 5150II and 6505+, although those are also clones but they have some sort of distinguishing feature from the 5150 and 6505.

But the difference is small, you probably wouldn't be able to recognize it without having experience playing both of them.

Inevitably, while one may be the clone of the other, tone may change as a result of product differentiation.
...as below so above and beyond I imagine.

The 5150 II and 6505+ have a second EQ and an extra preamp tube. Less gain than the 5150/6505, smoother sound.

Not true. I've seen the schematics for these amps - they literally are exactly the same. The 5150 IS the 6505, and the 5150 II IS the 6505+.

Usually when comparing the amps side by side, you'll notice some tonal variation, and that is easily explained. A) different tubes. B) different speakers. Lastly, but not altogether ignorable, different cabs will have some, however minute, effect on tone, so that can add to the overall sense that they are different amps.

But I assure you that from a circuity standpoint, they are not different amps.

No.
The 5150 and 6505 are the same amp.
The 6505+ and the 5150II are the same amp.
6505/5150 is a bit more aggressive and has a bit more gain on tap, and has a global EQ. The +/II has better cleans, shared EQ, and a tiny bit less gain. Either has more than you will ever need.

I don't think anyone actually read the OP... he's asking about an EVH 5150 so essentially a 5150iii. in that case its a completely different amp than any previous 6505 or 5150, never heard one though all i know is the circuitry is completely different
#10
its all the same minus the 5150III which is probably better than the rest.

On a budget? Just get a used 6505

Thank you. We all know the peaveys are the same. I just want to know if its an all "new" amp or a rebranded peavey.

You should have said 5150 III in the OP. The original 5150's say EVH on them - I had no idea you were even talking about the III.

The EVH 5150 III IS different from the I and II. I don't know the differences though so I assume it sounds quite similar to the other previous models.

I'm led to believe the EVH 5150 MKIII is brighter, tighter and less fizzy than the original peavey models.
