Play classical music in the background, it genuinely helps concentration.

Though you should probably focus on your English first.

Capital letters go at the beginning of sentences, and in the names of people, places and deities.

From what I've heard, Rosetta Stone uses a "language immersion" formula thingy that makes it pretty annoying to learn the language.

I think you'd be better off trying Tell Me More's software.

I recommend learning English before taking on other languages.

I feel like I'm the stereotypical rote learning guy. If I can't do a question, that won't do it.

My approach to studying is basically compiling everything into a single source.

I just type everything that I have to learn into a word document. Normally I'll have a separate section for theory if it is a calculation-based or application-based subject with a bit of theory. So I can just memorise everything from the theory section.

I also transfer the word documents to my phone so I can study anywhere.

Other than that, I practice until I run out of questions, and even then sometimes I can do a set of papers or the textbook multiple times.

Where are you from?

Anyway, when it comes to languages try thinking of something that you're familiar with and describing that thing to yourself in whatever language you want to get better at. You'll end up having to look up words so it does help you improve. It works for me at least.

Me and 2 friends learned enough Japanese (!) in one night to pass our module, you have plenty of time and German is a much easier language so I wouldn't worry. The best advice I could give you is to actually work at it, don't kid yourself that you're learning because there's a verb list open behind your Gameboy emulator or something.

General advice would be to make a list of all of the topics likely to come up, list all of the vocab relating to that topic and just make sure you know it 100%. Work with other people as well, ask each other questions in German and randomly quiz each on vocab, anything will help. Practice reading, writing, speaking and listening, I've always found that much more effective than doing just one.

This definitely helps as well, the time you save by not having to root through notes will probably bump you up a grade
