I've been watching Top Gear on Netflix for a while now, and don't understand how anyone can not like this guy. He's hilarious. So why is he disliked by people?

Meh, I don't think anyone hates him. He just makes crappy jokes all the time.

EDIT: Shouting "POWER" in fast cars every episode gets a bit boring too.
#5
Because his job is what most guys would love to have. Driving fast cars, pissing about? Hell yeah.

Also, he says some pretty stupid stuff sometimes, but I've never felt they were bad enough to make people really dislike him. But obviously, some do.
#6
people tend to take him seriously when he makes cracks and rants about things like environmentalists, germans and the general running of society. i've only recently started reading one of his books, the way he puts things is quite funny and he actually makes some good points

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put it, along with your other advice, into a book, the pages of which I will then use to wipe my ass.

This, although I can look past that and enjoy his comedy sometimes. I think the other two are fun as well.

Because he's arrogant, full of himself and insults portions of society (Germans, environmentalists etc. etc.).

Oh, and because he's pretty posh and right wing.

I like him regardless.

I find him funny. I don't agree with anything he says, and if he was less funny, he would fucking infuriate me with his stupid views, but he gets away with it.

Most replies connecting it to British humour

Plenty of Brits don't like him, he's arrogant, short-sighted and most of his humour and speech relies on the same formula.

One of the things he TOTALLY got when reinventing Top Gear was the, because car shows are naturally dull, you have to spice things up a bit. And I'm not just talking about all the challenges and crazy car tests: the bullying, racial slurs and (especially) the non-apologetic attitude towards those who'd like to see more political correctness are just key to that show

Let's face it: watching a review on which car is most eco-friendly is just lame. But watching Clarkson respond to an audience request for such an item by having a Ferrari 559, Merc McLaren, Lambo Murcielago and an Aston Martin DBS race against each other with just 1 gallon of fuel in their tanks is not only 10 times as entertaining -> you're constantly being reminded of the fact that this show is put together by people who are clever, funny and pretty damn creative too. TG is one my favorite shows

And I don't even like cars

Clarkson (and indeed Top Gear in general) tends to make somewhat offensive jokes about everyone. I think the people who hate him can't take a joke as well as the fans of the show do.

In other words, I think the fans of the show would be, for example, the mother who makes "yo momma" jokes to her kids.

Well he hardly targets the show's fans, does he? He goes for liberals, foreigners and environmentalists. Ooooh, rebel.

Suprised no one has put THIS here yet.

I find him sarcastic and childish. This appeals to my humour.

EDIT: And I like Top Gear, it's a fun show, but Jeremy Clarkson is the sort of right wing idiot who thinks it's common sense to erase all progress made since the 70s. He opposes political correctness and health and safety legislation, I saw him on QI saying "everything's got to have a name, hasn't it?" when Stephen Fry brought up a psychological condition. He probably one of those people who thinks ADD doesn't exist, and that white straight men are being discriminated against more than any minorities. He's that species of idiot.

Because people can't deal with the fact that he says things they don't like. I don't mind, I kinda like his humour. Maybe it's because the Dutch like joking about Germans as well.

I love Clarkson, but I take absoloutley everything he says with a pinch of salt. His columns are actually pretty good, too, but again, take it with a healthy dose sodium chloride if you want to really enjoy it. Plus he lives in a lighthouse.

To date, Top gear has made somewhat offensive jokes about:
- Americans
- Dutch
- French
- Morris Marina Owners' Club
- Jaguar owners
- Porsche owners
- Ferrari owners
- Gypsies
- Environmentalists
- Liberals
- Socialists
- Camp homosexuals
- Dictators
- Elvis Presley

Some of these have only been in passing, but were enough for some butthurt people.
