Last week my band played a show with a few other bands, and I got some rather assholeish remarks about my guitars (PRS CE22 and Epiphone G-400).
One of the other guitarists was a Dean fanattic and I over heard him saying "See that guy doesn't even use that over priced POS PRS, he's using a POS Epi instead."
So I quickly chimed in" That way it gives little a$$holes like you talk about". The guy nearly droped his beer. I then went on to tell him the reasons: 1 the G-400 is set up better for the tunings I use. 2 I really don't feal like trashing a great guitar onstage(Were pretty crazy). 3 Because I have both and I can.
His friend then went on to tell me the guy really wanted a PRS and can never find a good deal on one that he can afford.

So my Question to you is. Has any thing like this ever happened to you because of a jellous band/person wishes he/they had what you do.

For the record I am not a Dick when it comes to gear, buy whats best for you at the price you can afford. Some have the luxury of buying anything they want, but Im one of those that even $400 is a major purchase on gear. I just know how to haggle and save $ to get the best deal for me.

It happens, I've had people be like "Oh hey that guy plays guitar, oh wait nvm it's just a schecter. I happen to play a schecter tempest custom and it is a great guitar except the pups are lacking.

I don't get why people feel the the need to talk down about people's skills by what they play.
I know a great band (sadly not in person) that uses Fu**ing First Act's but they rock the shit outta them.

Oh and btw "jealousy"

i still play a squier after close to 2.5 to 3 yrs. Do you know how much heat i take for that. :P i just am very patient and believe in waiting to get what you want. In the end a good guitarist can pick up anything and make it sound good. Not to say i wouldn't want something else though.

Hmm... Personally, I don't support jealosy, but when I see little kids with Steve Vai signatures for 2500$ who don't know how to do shit with it I want to take that guitar and shove it up their little asses. I ,for one, believe that your guitar must be adequate to your level of playing. And why the hell to parents buy kids that overpriced stuff?

Now wait just a minute. You're trying to tell me there was someone drinking at a bar who had something less than stellar to say to you?

More seriously - you've got a right to have whatever you can afford and enjoy playing, just like everyone else does. What kind of insecure person gets butthurt because someone younger than them is playing on more expensive gear? It's all relative anyway, and talent will speak for itself.

Good point, but I've been playing live for 12+ yrs and the "new guys" just starting out think they are rock stars, when I was starting out you were as nice as can be to bands, especially bands that could potentualy help you out. The kids these days think people have to like them.

Oh I feel that.

It was a community, not a bunch of people ignoring the space around them. I get that point, but unfortunately, that's the climate of society. It's me first, you never as a mentality.

Damn I miss the days when it was a community thing. Sure it was about getting seen and noticed and heard, but it was also about raising the scene up. Ah, the good ol' days.

Yeah I mean I started out in a punk band that played with death metal bands in the area, just to get a scene goning. shure they played V's and I played Tele's, but every one was STOKED to be apart of something that at least mattered to us. Crappy practice amps and all...........

Noone's ever said anything about me playing metalcore on a squier tele, I guess the guy was just drunk and rowdy. If the guitar feels right and you can get a decent sound out of it then pay no heed, haters gonna hate!

One of the reasons I like Fender (I'm sure a hundred other guitar companies do this as well, but Fender's the one that sticks in my mind) is that they don't list the model name, number or series on the guitar. That guy's guitar could be a $400 mexican import, or a $1500 custom shop reissue, but there's no way to know except asking. The only way you can tell how much one of their guitars is worth is to study it up close and know quite a bit about Fender's. As opposed to say PRS or ESP/LTD, who literally spell it out in big letters ("SE" or "LTD") that this guitar is not one of their expensive models, or Gibson and Epiphone where the model is easily readable up close ("Traditional Pro" or "Special II", etc).

Piece of shit.

EDIT: Also, TS, I would have done the same thing. I would have totally told off anyone who called my guitar a piece of shit, especially a Dean player.

Beat me to it.

I've never really had anything THAT out of the way happen to me before. But overall I'm pretty poor and I can't really afford the best gear as some people can. So I guess it'll happen to me eventually.

Never had anyone trash talk my equipment unless it is justified, like if my amp cuts out or goes wrong (which it has done many times, but every time i decide to look for a new one, it behaves itself), or if the tuning on my guitar slips, then someone might make a joke, but no one has ever taken the piss out of me for what i use just for the sake of what it is, and if they did, i would probably not bother arguing and just tell them to piss off. I think part of the reason that no one bitches about my equipment is because both of my main guitars cost me less than £500, but i am content with both of them for now.

Having said this, i do get a bit pissed off when i see kids in bands with several top guitars and basses upwards of a grand, not because i am jealous (although if one was playing a Gretsch Firebird or something, then i would be), but because their parents have probably gone out and decided to buy a guitar for a ridiculous amount of money, when they could get one which would do almost as good a job for a fraction of the price.
WHOMP

Think of that next time you are not allowed to laugh.

most the people like that i have to put up with are much older than i am and think that just because they've been masturbating with a guitar for 30 years that means they are entitled to talk down to me and give me subjective advice as though it's a matter of fact and that i should do exactly as their opinion tells me because their opinions are clearly more valid than mine

like the guy who told me "you might as well throw out that gibson, it sounds awful". i said "i like it", and he said "well you might think it's awesome now because it's an actual real gibson like what slash used but when your ear for tone develops you'll hear what i'm hearing". what a stuck up old tosser
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.
