So one of my friends posted this incredible video on Facebook, that shows a tribe meeting white man and his technology for the first time. If you haven't seen it already I highly recommend it - every second of it is worth watching.
And I hope that this isn't old news to you guys

Serious response: Its actually pretty interesting

May their screams unhinge a thankless crown

Isn't it amazing how the video has less than 1000 views and the trolls have already gotten to it

When you think about it, showing them this technology is the equivalent of putting them in a time machine and sending them forward 2500 years. Amazing...

Yea. The guys that went there are basically traveling back in time. This is really cool. I was kind of surprised at how scared they were of the mirror.

EDIT: Hopefully they didn't get pestered by visitors after this, or forced to change their way of life.

That was fantastic, really interesting. I really enjoyed the mirror part, we are so used to mirrors and how we see ourselves that I didn't even realise how scary that could be for someone for the first time.

I actually watched that and smiled the entire time, was really interesting. Didn't picture myself watching all of it at first, but it's really cool.

And I'm sure at the end when the guy hears himself recorded, he was probably like "Dude that is so not how I sound".
#11
Wow very cool! Must have been pretty crazy for the white man too, how do you explain yourself or the things you have? He does a pretty good job I wouldn't know what to do at all.

That white guy looks a lot like Matthew McConaughey. I expected him to say something along the lines of, "That's what I like about old tribes; I get more advance, they stay the same".

Yeah. They traveled to New Guinea and hired some expert actors so they could show them some mirrors and record their voices.

Incredible footage, TS. I've been wanting to see something like this for a long while now. Thanks so much for sharing.

It could be fake but ^THIS is the reason I say it's real. You can't fake these types of things - acting can never reproduce true emotions, especially intense ones like this. Even when you watch movies, you still notice that the crying, love, courage, etc. is off.

Haha, a little farfetched maybe. It's just a part of me thinks it isn't genuine.

Oh to the guy wondering if there's more of this - the video description states:

Tribe on Papua New Guinea meets white man for the first time. Filmed in 1976. it seems this is only one segment of 13 in a longer film http://jpdutilleux.com/film.html

can't imagine how the british started killing the native americans, it's hard to be hostile with people who have no clue who you are like this.

That's just bad acting then. I've seen plenty of films where emotions have seemed completely perfect. I don't know if it's real or not but saying it's not real because the acting is too good makes no sense.

Just imagine showing them a city... buildings, cars, planes... would be like showing them another planet they didn't know existed. Amazing

Too bad it was filmed in '76. If it was filmed yesterday, I think think that would be a little more impressive

Look at the guy's eyes at 2:10.

Tell me honestly that seems like an actor.

If they are actors, they're damn good ones, because that's one of the strongest mixes of confusion and amazement I've seen on an adult. And of course it's cliche - How do you react to something you've never seen before that's evoking confusion and curiosity? With nervous interaction and trepidation. It's like saying someone crying when they hear a friend died is too cliche to be real. It's cliche because it's accurate.

About ten minutes in when they try rice for the first time as well.

That was amazing. Imagine if they showed them something like a TV, car, electric guitar. They were amazed enough by white skin and mirrors.

The technology in 1976 was still millennia ahead of what those people had seen before. Can you imagine introducing them to somewhere like NYC, even 35 years ago?
#33
Wow! I love how the emotions change over time, and how they are the same expressions anyone else would have. It's so cool to see how such a different culture still has the same reactions.

im sure we've based things in the movies on real footage. im not sure how else they would react.

That's what I thought too. The reactions seemed very cliche, but we have to get those cliches from somewhere.

I wonder how they reacted when they first saw a white woman.
