Scientific Theory: A scientific theory is what one or more hypotheses become once they have been verified and accepted to be true. A theory is an explanation of a set of related observations or events based upon proven hypotheses and verified multiple times by detached groups of researchers.
A "THEORY" IN RELATION TO SCIENCE IS BELIEVED TO BE FACT AS ALL SUPPORTING EVIDENCE IS DIRECTED TO THIS CONCLUSION.

yea i've seen this.

at first i raged, but then realized that if you're looking for brains in a Beauty Queen competition...you're in for one huge disappointment. At least some of then gave, at best, decent answers...it was more than i could have hoped for.

Only a couple were against it, most realised it's a difficult subject for some and went with 'teach both' and a couple were for it.

Didn't rage.

"I do not believe in evolution, I do not believe it should be taught in schools."

There's your problem religion. Ignorance. If you can't provide a viable argument for what you believe, just hide your kids from the competition.

Also, every time I hear the words;

"I believe that each one of us were created for a purpose, by god..."

especially spoken in an American accent, it makes me want to gauge my eyes out.

Even with modern science, we're not going to be able to observe either theory. If we can't observe such processes, then we definitely don't have the right to exclude other people's theories in the public education system.

Why do most American Christians seem to think that evolution and religion cancel each other out? I was raised to believe in both, so was pretty much everyone I know

I read in the newspaper a while back about deer and moose evolving already as well.

because hunters go for the big trophy size males, that some of the fully grown but smaller animals are living, and their smaller genes are winning the survival of the fittest and causing more and more smaller sized deer and moose to be born.

We can, in fact, observe evolution, just slowly. There's absolutely no difference between so-called "mico-" and "macroevolution," one is a step in the other. In a few thousand years we'll have all the evidence anybody could ever want for evolution.

Creationism, on the other hand, is not science, and therefore should not be taught in a science class. There isn't a bit of evidence except speculation, and a lack of evidence against it doesn't matter--the burden of proof is not on the skeptic.

And oh dear sweet tap dancing Gautama Buddha the "it's just a theory" thing is friggin' annoying to anybody who knows the first little thing about science.

And btw I'm a Christian. We're not all ignorant idiots. And I do believe God created us for a purpose, I just don't think he had to do it by such crude means as transforming dirt.

It was taught to me as a theory, I don't know why it's such a hot topic if it's taught that way.

The problem is that "theory" doesn't mean the same in science as it does in everyday speech. People think naming it a "theory" implies that it's more or less an educated guess.

The term "theory" simply means that it's a set of principles that explains something. Like the theory of gravity, for example. It doesn't mean that there is any kind of doubt as to it's validity.

Sure why not? It doesn't harm anyone. xD Well except you know, the Papal empire.

But i saw evolution and religion CAN live in peace...the other one just has to admit it's false xD
G(g)od was like: "Make you an ark of gopher wood; rooms shall you make in the ark, and shall pitch it within and without with pitch."
