Hi, my cousin was looking for a cheap starting electric bass (under $250) and he found a Fender Starcaster Jazz Bass for $200 but he could hardly find any reviews on it. Do you guys know anything about it? I've heard that it's better than the Squier Affinity series but that's it.

I have not had a Starcaster bass, but I have a Starcaster strat.
Ya, I got stuck with it,,, lol

If it were me, I'd find a used Affinity, or other type of Squire or
Ibey that sounds plays and sounds good to you.

I could be wrong, but I sure wouldn't buy one without playing it.

I've heard nothing but awful things about them. Try before you buy and, even then, probably avoid.

Okay guys, I have a confession to make. Not really a confession since it's something that's been bugging me for awhile but I've always been in denial about it.

**** you gilly, it's not what you think

Avoid. They're basically re-badged Affinitys that were intended for retail sale through stores like Costco, Best Buy, Wal Mart, ect. The "Starcaster by Fender" is just an attempt to dodge the Squier name.

I disagree, the starcasters are far worse then any Affinity I have ever played.

In the end, the only question is: what bass would Jesus play?

I think he's a Fender Jazz guy.

You posted on here, that means you must have your own doubts about it.

Starcaster is awful. Stay far away from that thing. I'd suggest trying out a few Squiers and Epiphones.
