So I've owned my baby for a good 5 years now, MIM strat.

Love it to death, besides the fact it hums like a ****ing generator.

I have no previous experience installing pickups or any wiring of sort.

I've done some work building computers, but no wiring. I was taking a look at these pickups > http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/fender-vintage-noiseless-strat-pickup-set/301632000000000

Do i need to change out the pots as well? Am I better off paying $60 for someone else to install them? I think it'd be alot of fun to do it myself, but I fear I may ruin my guitar and waist a new set of pickups in the process. Any tips?

I was looking at this schematic http://photos1.blogger.com/photoInclude/x/blogger/7379/3439/1600/493573/strat_wir.jpg
Is it as easy as soldering the 3 colored wires and the 3 uncolored?

easy as pie
if you can build a computer then wiring should be easy
and you dont NEED to swap out the pots since your using the same kind of pickups

that said
swap them
they are genuine fender

hmmmm
geek speak time?

it will be like swapping out the RAAM on your computer (from like 1 GB to 4GB) cause you swapped the hard drive

it will just make the guitar ''run'' better

I admire you ability to communicate in different tongues.

Would you recommend switching the pots?

i thought i made that part clear
HELL YES
especially seeing as it is 5 years old
my logic?

they sell them with the pickups so its a waste not too

also that wiring diagram is spot on and will allow you to easily swap them out

but i might add a bit of personal experience

i always triple check each wire against the diagram before i solder it and i check it 3 more times after
just take your time and never solder to a cold surface
you wont get a strong hold

EDIT::
how close is where you live from fenton michigan?
i can wire it for free
(if you check previous posts you can see i got some skills
