Hello,

I recently purchased a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 50 watt head and love the tone; however, I still don't have a cab.

Before buying it I tried it on a friends Marshall cab that was around the $500 mark and absolutely loved the sound. But, right now I only have about $200.

So my questions:

How much is the cab really going to affect my tone? Should I get something around the $200 mark or save up to get something higher end?

Also, can you recommend me a good cab for the price range you suggest?

Thanks!

High quality cabs make a huge difference, and in the 200$ price range (for 4x12s at least) they all have the same quality: shit. For that price I'd say look around for good quality used speakers and just build your own.

^^^ This. Running a great amp head through a cheap-ass cabinet is the musical equivalent of putting shopping cart wheels on a Porsche, it's a total waste.

Okay, I didn't realize it would have that much affect.

So what model would you two consider high end enough for this amp?

If you go new the Avatar cabs are your best bet, and you can choose the color of tolex, grille and speakers. Don't get a cheap marshall cab, they are made of partical board.

Used marshall 1960/1936 (dont give there avt/mg cabs a look EVER)
I am not sure what the pricings like in america but in the UK its easy to pick up a beaten up 1960 cheap used because they are so common, big and hard to move lol.

Yeah if it is 100 watts that means it has Green backs in it. and they are a really nice speaker. I'd spring the $300 for it.
