Yeah man, sandpaper. Just be careful cause the wood underneath's probably not going to be that pretty either.
Was lacking a decent sig. Still is.

sandpaper's really about all you can do. Don't expect the lettering to stay on and be sure to remove all the hardware too. if you do end up with nasty wood (it'll be close to what's on the neck if that's not painted as well) you can repaint it or just buy a whole new neck. for a squier i wouldn't recommend the latter.
If you do like the wood underneath, be sure to do coat (or a few) of clearcoat to preserve the wood.
