So im holding a dinner party for some American friends tomorrow. They live in the Uk so they are homesick and would love some American style home cooking.

Someone suggested humble pie...but seriously looking for any ideas

I was going to make

some american starter??

venison burgers with bacon, pickles jalapinos, blue cheese and relish

homemade sweet potato wedges & omion rings

vanilla shakes

pumpkin pie, blueberry pie or a chocolate torte (not v american but hey)

long island ice tea

some european beers since american beer sucks

The pie should definitely be apple. Haven't you ever heard the expression "as American as apple pie"? Also they might enjoy some BBQ.
I'm rgrockr and I do not approve of this message.

Starters - Deep fried lard

Dessert - Burgers with deep fried burger fat

I nodded to everything up until thel last line.

But honestly, a typical American meal could be Chinese, Mexican, Italian, or anything. You really can't go wrong, so a classic American burger is a good way to go.

Grill a burger.

And by burger I mean beef.

With lettuce, tomato, onion, and of course, cheese.

I'd go for cajun cooking. Pretty much the only good food the USA has in my opinion.

Anything deep fried. You should deep fry a shoe and they might like it. Really though, having a cook-out would be good; burgers, hot dogs, etc.

Well that's your problem. Most people recognize that those beers suck. That's hardly all that the US has to offer though.

Well we are in scotland where we do deep fried pizzas and chocolate bars

Starter: Caesar style salad.
Main: Beef burgers with onion, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and cheese; hot dogs; anything BBQ; french fried potatoes; served with Coke and or beer (American).
Dessert: Apple/cherry/peanut butter pie.

EDIT: Also what the guy said below me said: No bleu cheese; use a mild cheddar.
And as for the venison/beef debate, if they've never had venison, play it safe and go beef.

Venison burgers should be fine instead of beef I eat them all the time. Blue cheese may be a bit much though.
Make sure you have mayo, ketchup, and mustard.

Sam Adams is solid.

Also try Troegs, Sierra Nevada, or anything by Smuttynose.

Yea, American beer does NOT suck lol. The belgians may have us beat, but I don't consider any other country superior to us in that field.

Smuttynose is ok. Troegs and Sierra Nevada are good.

I'd also suggest Dogfish Head, Anderson Valley, Great Lakes, Rogue, Victory, Great Divide, Brooklyn Brewery, Stone Brewing Co., Bell's Brewery, Allagash Brewing, Southern Tier, and Brewery Ommegang to name a few.

Not sure if you can find any of those across the pond unfortunately.

I also forgot to mention anything from the Russian River Valley brewery. That area isn't just known for it's wine, it seems. :P:

But yea I'm drinking one of smuttynoses IPA's as we speak (and theres a few old brown dog ales in the fridge) and I'm loving it.

What else is there? Beer advocate is obsessed with Founders and Portsmouth, though I haven't had the pleasure of trying them.

edit: is there a beer thread? I'm gonna go search for it hahaha.
