I need to raise my monitors around 9" so I'd like to build my own stand/enclosure to house them. They are currently on my desk and I don't have the space for floor stands.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to monitors so I'm not 100% sure if the design I'd like to use is usable. This is what i'm thinking...

  • Enclosed design to give the appearance of being one large speaker
  • The hollow lower area filled with sand/concrete to reduce vibration

Should I need to add spikes or any type of feet to the bottom?

What do you think? It would look nice with some nice wood, but would it affect the sound in an adverse way? I just do a little casual recording at home so it doesn't need to be absolutely perfect. Let me know what you would change or add
