Hey guys,

So im currently playing through a Marshall AVT100, using a Les Paul Studio, a Tony Iommi SG and soon to be using a VMNT1, I'm looking to upgrade my amp, preferrably a Marshall for about $700 give or take, any recommendations? I mostly play hard rock and would want it for gigging and practise.

Thanks!

what about something like a Bugera 1990( very similar to a JCM 900)? I know there's a lot of Bugera hate around the internets but they actually sound really good. From what I've heard, the quality issues ( i.e. the need for a fire extinguisher) have been eliminated. They are even releasing a version of a Mesa Mark V and a Dual Rec this Nov.

If i were you i would look at USED Marshall TSL 100H's, DSL's, maybe a JCM 900 SL-X too, if i were you i would try to avoid the normal JCM-900's, somthing about them just does not sound right to me.

You might also want to look at the Jet City line, I think its the JCA-100 thats based off of the SLO-100. If your into metal, you could also find a Peavey 6505/6505+ for around that price, this is all assuming you have a cab already.

Go with a Bugera 1990. Bugera makes VERY great and respectable amp clones, the 1990 is a clone of the JCM 900 and should tickle your fancy.

Are you looking for a combo, or a head/cab? What kind of bands do you play in the style of? "Hard rock" is very broad, and can mean very different things depending on the decade you're talking about.

Preferably a combo, but would get a head if it were good enough - and get a cab shortly after.

Hard rock as in Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin etc

Bugera 1990 and a 2x12 cab would fit the bill

Marshall JCM2000 DSL100
Krank 1980 Jr 20watt

I really don't like the 1990 sounds harsh and sterile to me, and I like bugera. I would do as others have said and look for used tsl or dsl Marshall heads.

What about like a bugera v22 or v55 combo. I havent played one but i think they get a nice voxy vintage classic rock tone and those are well below 700$

Both the V22 and V55 are diecent amps that sound really good for their price range, and I belive they are foot switchable channels.
