I'm mainly talking about modern conspiracy theories like 9/11, JFK, that New World Order thing, various economic conspiracy theories, etc.

For me, I'm for the most part completely indifferent to conspiracy theories and find most of them silly. I will admit I'm still undecided, but I'll actually consider and give some merit to JFK, and Marilyn Monroe. I'm skeptical to those.

What are your thoughts on conspiracy theories? Totally credible and backed with good evidence lots of times? Or silly stories that prey on cynical assholes who want to have edgy beliefs?

Obama is a communist/socialist. Take your pick.

That's the only one I actually believe.

Oh and LBJ had JFK killed.

Most are just silly bullshit thought up from people who just want attention. The only stories that I do think are conspiracies are 9/11 and the JFK assassination - although nobody seems to have gotten the truth about either.

I don't believe in most conspiracies, I'm more with the alan moore theory, that says that the reason people believe in conspiracies is beacuase it is more comfortable, at least that means that someone have control of the world, the truth is the world is a chaotic system.

i wouldn't be surprised if the government at the very least had some knowledge that 9/11 was going to happen.

With enough rationalization, anything is credible, but on the other hand it's only a fool that disregards something simply because it seems unlikely without any real proof. IT's a fine line.

Overall I think that people worry too much about things beyond their control and forget to work on fixing what they can actually affect with change.

The only one I believe to be quite plausible is the De Boehrs ( or however you type it) Diamond monopoly, basically saying that they restrict the mining of their massive mines to keep the diamons inflated in price.

The rest of conspiracy theories derive from people with paranoid personality disorder actually being able to communicate with others with the same disorder through the internet.

Yeah this pretty much, either they just want to be someone who says "I TOLD YOU SO!!11" or "OPEN YOUR EYES YOUR GOVERNMENT IS MUGGING YOU"

Then there's some real whackjobs out there who when presented with a new theory takes it as truth at the first glance they see the words "The Government implemented..."

That's all the validation they need, the government being a bad guy and it's infallible.
yo.

I BELIEVE
#21
It depends on the theory.

Some are really far out, and likely products of a mentally ill mind. I'm talking more along the lines of things like, saying the world is run by shape shifting reptilians, or invisible aliens who control our mind with the TV.

Others are very plausible. For example, saying that the world is really run by major corporations or bankers, and our major politicians are nothing more than their puppets. Is it really that hard to believe that people with lots of money can also be very powerful? Or that they will do bad things to make themselves more powerful, and try to hide their actions?

I think some people are so comfortable with their view of the world that they refuse to let that image be shattered, so they reject ideas that are shocking but realistic.

Most are really far-fetched and stupid.

I've seriously thought about some though, such as the one where electric cars are actually already viable, but they're holding back the technology so the petrol industry won't be killed.

I have a saying with reading between the lines. It also works with conspiracy theories.

If you look hard enough, you'll go cross-eyed, and the lines that merge into one will say what you want to see.

I think there are some cases when things are different than most believe. To say everything is as it seems would be silly. Same time, the "logic" grounding the more extreme, "out-there" conspiracies is fairly easily refuted with actual logic.

I believe in the Courtney Love one mentioned above because it seems to make more sense than suicide, and I kind-of believe Area 51 mostly because it has some of the most entertaining "what-ifs", as do most things dealing with alien technology. Beyond that, not really much.

I'm not one for outrageous theories like the Reptilians or whatever, but I don't trust the government. They have done some insanely dirty shit in the past and I can guarantee they're not becoming saints any time soon.

the moon landing can be proved by looking at the footage: When they're driving around in the rover, the moon dust is being thrown back in an arc that can only be possible in a vacuum. Creating a vaccum big enough for the scene to be filmed is technologically impossible, even today, so they definitely landed on the moon.

Also, they left stuff on the moon, you can test that from Earth.
