I'm a self taught guitarist and it's come to my attention that to get into the university I want to, they expect a Grade 5 level of experience.
Now, I have no idea what this means, I've never taken private lessons for any musical instrument, because I've always preferred to learn by myself.
I'm just wondering what it takes to actually gain a Grade 5 level, and what songs are sort of around that level of difficulty?

Thanks in advance (:
i took lessons for years and never heard about grades or levels. that being said - and i could be wrong about this - it appears from a little search on google that grade 5 is advanced intermediate, and i'd expect it to include some sight reading.

seems to me that the school you're interested would be willing to answer your question, and probably has some suggestions of tunes at that level.

I just looked in my Oxford English Dictionary and under "Acoustic Guitar", there was your Avatar and an email address!
