My machine head fell off of my guitar (g string). I just wanted to know the best way to go about getting it back on.

At some point I am going to upgrade the whole tuning system but most likely not for a few years, so it has to be a somewhat permanent fix.

Edit: Just noticed I'm missing the whole locking post. Should I just get a replacement?

get a replacement. Check out www.guitarfetish.com for reasonable priced quality machine heads.

good call I just orderd a set for a LP copy and a Tele style build I'm doing. The locking style tuners are around $36 set vs. $70+ for schallers/Grover locking.

And they are pretty good for the money in my opinion. I've gotten two sets of locking tuners from them and have had no issues at all.

If your current tuners are Grovers then the GFS tuners will probably be drop in replacements.
