So the models I was checking out were the Ibanez RG1570 and RG1550M

Can the UG community tell me which one is "better"??
They're both prestige models so I'm assuming they're of good quality.

Neither one is better, they are simply different.

EDIT: That said, I believe the Edge Pro on the RG1570 is better than the Edge Zero on the RG1550M. They're both really good trems though.

Yes, Ibanez Prestige models are usually really, really good.

Alright so I got that they're both good. How are they compared to lets say.... an ESP/LTD EC 1000???

Well, obviously the RG1570 has 20 more awesome. It's in the name. But the RG1550 does have an "M" though....

That was great

I figure if the RG1550M stands up better than the LTD EC 1000 that I'll pick one up and throw in some new pickups. Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge. Other PUPs I'm still thinkin about.

Just by looking at the model names...

1 Lower end prestige [MIJ, still GREAT though]
5 Has characteristics of the RG5xx series
5 HSH pickups, FRONT routed
0 Has a trem
M Maple fretboard

The 1570 should be the same, but the pickups are HSH BACK routed [that's what the 7 means] and there is a rosewood fretboard [hence why there is no M in RG1570]

But could I get info on the LTD comparison still??? I have no way of playing the two guitars at the moment so I'm relying on your opinions!

The LTD has better pickups, but the Prestige is a better built guitar overall, and if you upgrade the pickups, will be a much better investment overall.

That said, there's a huge difference in feel between an RG Prestige and a Deluxe EC. Scale length, shape, neck finish, neck joint, neck thickness... it's just very different. You'd really have to play both.

+1

i'd rather have the ibanez, but then i know i like ibanez necks + specs so i can pick based on which i think is the better guitar.

also your point about the edge pro versus edge zero would be worth considering too.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.
