ok i have a weber mass 100 lite attenuator. is it true if i max the volume on a 100w amp and attenuate down to GIGGING volume (not bedroom volume) ie louder than a drummer, that ill fry the attenuator? bear in mind id prob only be doing this two nights a week for 3 hours per time.

you say that but surely plexi type amps without a gain knob are turned up near fully all the time to get that overdriven tone....i know the tubes wont last as long but surely theyre not in danger of dying right away?

ya through a 200 watt speaker cabinet everything will be fine.

you will fry a 100watt cabinet or a 100 watt attenuator.

a plexi easily puts out 185-235 cranked.

I have a weber lite and they recommend that you go twice the power rating if your running at max turned down low; especially a plexi. Maybe try the plexi volume at 6-7 and the weber at 7-9 with an OD if you don't want to fork out a couple hundred for a new weber? Attenuators even at 10 cuts the volume pretty noticeably.

also keep in mind that the plexi gets 100 watts clean..the moment you start getting power tube break up it's over 100 which means that the 100 watt mass won't be enough.

it's fine for lowering the volume a little bit. but I wouldn't do it too much.

Obviously, the speakers will also take some of the load...but it's still risky.

Even speakers start getting a little iffy.

When bands were using marshall stacks with 4 celestions as their primary source of stage sound...speakers, tubes, etc all had to be replaced pretty regularly sometimes after just one show.
