ok so i'm about to upgrade my guitar's pick ups. I know that I should definitely go with the emg 81 for my new bridge pickup but I haven't yet decided on what to put in for the neck. I've read good things about both the 85 and the 60, but haven't found a clear definition as for what is different about them. I'm not even completely against putting another 81 for the bridge but as of now i' leaning towards the 60 or 85, slightly towards the 60 because i read that is what jim root of slipknot uses for his neck and 81 for his bridge. any advice, thoughts, suggestions, or clarities as to the difference of all these pick ups?

Thanks in advance. Cheers

Get an 89 if you can. It's and 85 essentially that can also be set up for a coil tap. I never thought I'd use it but it's damn nice.

The 60 has always come off muddy to be. Nice for cleans, not so much distortion. Go for the 85.

I actually find the opposite, i have the 60 in my guitar and i like its distortion noises, but find the cleans to be a bit too bright and plain

run dual 81's in a Gibson SG that is in C# stdanadeard/drop b, and i love the way that they are both pretty aggressive, and the leads on the rhythm pickup cut through better than a lot of guitar that run an 85/60 in the neck. just food for thought. but you will not have the best cleans.

I prefer the 85 over the 60.
